# Templates, Integrations and Marketplace Growth

Some of the strongest product-led acquisition channels live inside the product's own ecosystem: template galleries people find through search, integration directories listed in partners' marketplaces, public pages created by users (shared boards, forms, portfolios, status pages), app store listings and community-made templates. Each turns product usage into discovery. Companies such as Notion, Canva, Zapier and Airtable have grown partly through public templates and integration pages, while many products keep useful templates hidden inside the app where nobody outside can find them.

This skill builds ecosystem growth surfaces: template galleries, integration and app directory pages, partner marketplace listings, user-generated public pages, community template programmes and the SEO and conversion design that makes them work.

## Operating principles
1. **Every surface should deliver value before sign-up.** A template preview or integration guide should help people even if they don't sign up yet.
2. **Search intent first.** Build templates and integration pages for things people actually search for.
3. **Quality over quantity.** Thin, duplicated pages generated at scale can count as low-value content; each page needs unique, useful substance.
4. **One click from discovery to use.** "Use this template" should open it in the product with minimal friction.
5. **Let users and partners contribute.** Community templates and partner listings scale what one team can build.

## Growth surfaces
| Surface | Example | How it drives growth |
|---|---|---|
| Template gallery | "Content calendar template", "OKR template" | Search traffic, instant value, sign-ups through "use template" |
| Integration pages | "Connect Slack and Acme" | Search for integrations; partner referrals |
| Partner marketplace listings | Listings in Slack, Shopify, HubSpot or Atlassian marketplaces | Discovery where buyers already work |
| User-generated public pages | Public forms, boards, portfolios, docs | Each public page shows the product to new people |
| Branding on free outputs | "Made with Acme" badges | Visibility from free usage |
| Community templates | Creator-submitted templates | Volume, variety and creator promotion |
| Embeds and widgets | Embedded forms or calendars on customer sites | Exposure on other websites |

## When to use, and when not to
Use it when the product has reusable templates, integrations or public outputs, when search and partner channels are under-used and when building scalable acquisition beyond ads.

Don't use it for mass-produced pages without unique value (search engines treat scaled low-value content as spam), or for general integration partnerships (the Product Marketing `partner-marketing` skill).

## Inputs to ask for, in one message
1. Templates, integrations and public outputs that exist today.
2. Search demand for template and integration terms.
3. Partner marketplaces available.
4. Product ability to open templates directly and support public pages.
5. Content and design capacity; community of creators.
6. Analytics on gallery and integration page traffic and sign-ups.

## Workflow

### Step 1. Map surfaces
Which templates, integrations and public outputs exist and could be made public?

### Step 2. Research demand
Keyword research for "[use case] template", "[tool] integration" and "[tool] + [your category]" terms.

### Step 3. Prioritise
By demand, fit with the product's value and ability to deliver a useful page.

### Step 4. Design page templates
Template pages: preview, who it's for, how to use it, variations, "use template" button. Integration pages: what the integration does, use cases, setup steps, screenshots, connect button.

### Step 5. Build unique substance
Each page needs specific content: real examples, setup guides, FAQs and visuals, not just swapped keywords.

### Step 6. Make use one click
Open the template in the product with sign-up embedded; land integration users in the setup flow.

### Step 7. List in partner marketplaces
Clear descriptions, screenshots, reviews and setup guides in each marketplace.

### Step 8. Enable community contributions
Submission flow, quality review, creator profiles and promotion.

### Step 9. Measure
Traffic, template uses, sign-ups, activation and revenue from each surface.

## Template page structure
```
Title: [Use case] template
Preview image or interactive preview
Who it's for and what it helps with (2-3 sentences)
What's included (sections, fields, views)
How to use it (3-5 steps)
Examples or variations
FAQs
Primary action: Use this template (opens in product)
Related templates
```

## Integration page structure
```
Title: Connect [Tool] and [Product]
What the integration does (2-3 sentences)
Top use cases with examples
How to set it up (steps with screenshots)
What data syncs and how often
FAQs and troubleshooting
Primary action: Connect (opens setup in product)
Related integrations
```

## Marketplace listing checklist
- Clear name and one-line value statement.
- Screenshots or a short video of the integration in use.
- Setup guide and support contact.
- Pricing and plan requirements stated plainly.
- Reviews requested from satisfied users.
- Keywords buyers use in the marketplace search.

## Metrics by surface
| Metric | Why |
|---|---|
| Organic sessions to gallery and integration pages | Discovery |
| Template uses and integration connections | Intent to use |
| Sign-ups from each surface | Acquisition |
| Activation rate of those sign-ups | Quality of users |
| Paid conversion and revenue | Business value |
| Marketplace installs and reviews | Partner channel health |

## Quality safeguards
Review new pages before publishing, merge near-duplicates, noindex low-quality user-generated pages and keep templates updated when the product changes. A smaller set of strong pages builds more traffic and trust than thousands of thin ones.

## Community template programme
Invite power users and creators to submit templates, review them for quality, credit creators with profiles and links, feature the best in newsletters and social posts, and consider revenue sharing or perks for top contributors.

## Edge cases and judgement calls
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Hundreds of similar templates | Consolidate into strong pages with variations |
| Integration with little demand | Keep a simple directory entry rather than a full page |
| User public pages with spam | Moderation, noindex for low-quality public pages, abuse reporting |
| Partner marketplace rules | Follow listing guidelines and review processes |
| Branding on free outputs annoys users | Offer removal as a paid feature, keep it tasteful |

## Worked example
A project management tool had 60 useful templates visible only inside the app. Keyword research showed strong demand for terms such as "project timeline template" and "sprint planning template". The team built a public gallery with a page per template, each with a preview, use cases, steps, FAQs and a "use this template" button that opened it in the product with sign-up embedded, and launched integration pages for its top 20 integrations with setup guides. They listed the app in two partner marketplaces. Within a year, the gallery and integration pages became a leading source of sign-ups with activation rates above average, because users arrived with a clear use case.

## Output format
```
# Ecosystem growth plan: <product>, <date>
## Surfaces and opportunities
## Demand research
## Prioritised pages and listings
## Page templates
## One-click use flows
## Marketplace listings
## Community programme
## Metrics
```

## Common mistakes
- Templates hidden inside the app.
- Thin pages generated at scale.
- "Use template" leading to a generic sign-up page.
- Ignoring partner marketplaces.
- No measurement of activation from these surfaces.

## Questions to ask before you build
- Which templates, integrations or outputs do people search for?
- Can a visitor open a template in the product in one click?
- Which partner marketplaces do your buyers use?

## Self-check before you answer
- Are surfaces chosen by real demand?
- Does each page have unique, useful substance?
- Is the path from page to product one click?
- Are sign-ups and activation measured by surface?
