# LinkedIn Organic Growth

LinkedIn is where most B2B buyers, hiring candidates, partners and investors spend professional attention. Company pages matter, but on LinkedIn people usually outperform logos: posts from founders, executives and experts tend to reach and engage far more than brand updates. What works is consistent, useful, native content from credible voices, plus real conversation in comments. What doesn't work is reposting press releases, pasting links with no context or engagement pods that game early interactions.

This skill builds LinkedIn organic programmes for company pages and personal profiles: profiles, content pillars, post formats, hooks, writing style, cadence, engagement habits, newsletters, events and measurement. LinkedIn ads sit in the Performance Marketing skills.

## Operating principles
1. **People first, page second.** Build expert voices and connect them to the company page.
2. **Native and useful.** Teach, show and share experience in the post itself.
3. **Hooks matter.** The first two lines decide whether people expand the post.
4. **Comments are content.** Thoughtful replies and comments on others' posts build reach and relationships.
5. **Consistency beats virality.** Regular posting builds recognition with the right audience.

## Profile and page essentials
| Element | Personal profile | Company page |
|---|---|---|
| Headline or tagline | Who you help and how, not just a job title | What the company does for whom |
| About | Story, expertise, proof, call to action | Clear description with keywords |
| Featured | Best posts, guides, newsletter | Showcase products, events, content |
| Banner | Message or proof point | Brand message and call to action |
| Creator tools | Newsletter, follow button, topics | Page newsletter, events, product pages |

## Formats
| Format | Good for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Text post | Opinions, stories, lessons | Short paragraphs, strong first lines |
| Document or carousel | Frameworks, step-by-step guides, data | Readable on mobile; clear slide titles |
| Native video | Demos, explanations, behind the scenes | Captions; hook in the first seconds |
| Image with text | Data points, quotes | One clear message |
| Polls | Light engagement and research | Use sparingly; share results |
| Newsletter | Depth for subscribers | Consistent schedule |
| Live and events | Q&A, launches, panels | Promote in advance; repurpose recordings |

## When to use, and when not to
Use it for B2B brands, founders and executives, recruiting, partnerships and professional communities.

Don't use it for LinkedIn ad campaigns (the Performance Marketing `paid-social-tiktok-linkedin` skill) or for full thought leadership programmes across channels (the Content, Copy and PR `thought-leadership` skill).

## Inputs to ask for, in one message
1. Goals (audience growth, leads, hiring, reputation).
2. Voices available and their expertise.
3. Current profiles and page, with analytics.
4. Audience: roles, industries, regions.
5. Content assets: guides, data, case studies, videos.
6. Time each voice can commit weekly.

## Workflow

### Step 1. Optimise profiles and page
Headlines, about sections, featured content, banners and links.

### Step 2. Define pillars per voice
Two or three themes each person can speak to credibly.

### Step 3. Build a post bank
Ideas from customer questions, lessons learned, data, opinions and behind-the-scenes moments.

### Step 4. Write native posts
Hook, short paragraphs, one idea, a specific example, a question or takeaway at the end.

### Step 5. Set cadence
For example two to four posts a week per voice; company page three to five.

### Step 6. Engage daily
Reply to comments within hours; comment thoughtfully on posts by customers, peers and prospects.

### Step 7. Connect voices and page
Employees share and comment on page posts; page amplifies expert posts.

### Step 8. Measure and refine
Impressions, engagement rate, comments, profile visits, follower growth from target roles, site clicks and leads.

## Post structure
```
Hook (first 1-2 lines): a specific claim, result, question or tension
Context: why this matters, in 2-3 short lines
Insight: the lesson, steps or data
Example: a real story or number
Takeaway or question: invite thoughtful replies
```

## Hook examples
| Type | Example |
|---|---|
| Result | "We cut month-end from 6 days to 2. Here's the checklist." |
| Contrarian | "Most finance teams don't have a people problem. They have a process problem." |
| Story | "Last March our biggest customer nearly churned. This saved the account." |
| Question | "What's the one report your CFO actually reads?" |
| List | "5 month-end checks that catch 80% of errors" (only if supported) |

## Daily engagement routine (20 minutes)
1. Reply to every thoughtful comment on your recent posts.
2. Comment with substance on five to ten posts from customers, prospects and peers.
3. Respond to direct messages and connection requests from relevant people.
4. Save ideas from conversations into the post bank.

## Carousel guidelines
- One idea per slide, with a clear title.
- Large text readable on a phone.
- First slide states the promise; last slide gives the takeaway or next step.
- Eight to twelve slides is usually enough.
- Brand colours and logo kept subtle.

## Metrics by goal
| Goal | Metrics |
|---|---|
| Audience growth | Followers from target roles and industries |
| Engagement | Engagement rate, comments, reposts, saves |
| Traffic and leads | Profile visits, link clicks, demo requests mentioning LinkedIn |
| Hiring | Applications citing LinkedIn, employer brand engagement |
| Reputation | Invitations, media mentions, inbound partnership requests |
Review monthly by voice and format, and double down on what reaches the right people.

## Post bank sources
Customer questions, sales call objections, lessons from projects, product data, team milestones, opinions on industry news and answers to comments on earlier posts. Keep a shared list so voices never start from a blank page.

## Edge cases and judgement calls
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Executives with no time | Monthly interviews; ghostwritten drafts they edit and approve |
| External links reduce reach (widely observed) | Put the value in the post; add links where they truly help |
| Regulated industries | Pre-approved topics and compliance checks |
| Engagement pods or bought engagement | Avoid; they break platform rules and attract the wrong audience |
| Brand page grows slowly | Focus on expert voices and connect them to the page |

## Worked example
A B2B analytics startup's company page posted product updates weekly to little response. The founder and two product leads began posting three times a week each about lessons from customer implementations, using carousels for frameworks and short native videos for demos, and spent 20 minutes a day commenting on customers' and prospects' posts. The company page reshared and summarised their best posts. Within six months, impressions among target roles grew many times over, inbound demo requests mentioning LinkedIn rose, and two posts were quoted in trade media.

## Output format
```
# LinkedIn plan: <brand or person>, <date>
## Goals and audience
## Profile and page fixes
## Pillars per voice
## Post bank (first month)
## Formats and cadence
## Engagement routine
## Metrics
```

## Common mistakes
- Posting press releases and link drops.
- Brand page only, no people.
- Weak first lines.
- Never replying to comments.
- Gaming engagement with pods.

## Questions to ask before you plan
- Who in the company has expertise people want to hear?
- What do your buyers ask that you can answer publicly?
- How much time can each voice commit weekly?

## Self-check before you answer
- Are profiles and the page optimised?
- Does each voice have clear pillars?
- Are posts native with strong hooks?
- Is daily engagement planned and measured?
