Funnel and conversion analysis specialist
I find the step where customers leave and the reason they leave, so teams fix the right thing first. At Ecobank, a customer attribution pipeline I built cut funnel drop-offs by 18%.
What I do
Step-by-step conversion measurement
I define every step from first visit to the action that signals value, then measure how many people pass each one. Agreeing the steps and their definitions comes before any chart.
Finding where users drop off and why
Numbers show where people leave; recordings and events show why. At Topship, Mixpanel and session recordings showed where users dropped off, alongside a reworked journey and an abandoned shipment flow for people who stopped mid-order.
Activation as the step that counts
The step after sign-up decides most funnels. At Formplus, an onboarding redesign lifted new-customer activation by 63% within two quarters. At Ecobank, an activation workflow produced 24% more new-customer deposits than Q1 2023.
Drop-off by customer segment
An average hides the group that is leaking. I split each step by source, device, market and customer type, then take the biggest gap to the product or CRO backlog with an owner.
How I work
- 1
Define the funnel
Agree the outcome that counts, such as an activated user or a first deposit, and list the steps that lead to it.
- 2
Check the tracking
Confirm every step fires once, with the same definition in every tool, before reading any rate. Broken events create false leaks.
- 3
Measure each step
Calculate step-to-step conversion and the time between steps, split by source, device and customer type.
- 4
Explain the leak
Add session recordings, support questions or user feedback to the biggest drop to learn why people leave.
- 5
Recommend and re-measure
Share the finding with its size, a recommended fix and an owner, then measure the same step again after the change.

Questions
What is funnel analysis?
Funnel analysis measures how many people complete each step on the way to an outcome, such as a sign-up, a first deposit or a purchase. It shows where people leave and how big each loss is, so a team fixes the largest leak first instead of guessing. The result is a ranked list of problems with sizes.
How do you find where users drop off?
I compare step-to-step conversion across segments, then add qualitative evidence for the biggest drop. At Topship, Mixpanel and session recordings showed where users dropped off. Numbers locate the problem and recordings or feedback explain it, so the fix addresses a cause and not a symptom.
How is funnel analysis different from conversion rate optimisation?
Funnel analysis finds and sizes the leak. Conversion rate optimisation tests fixes for it. Working in that order avoids testing button colours on a step that is not the problem. My findings go into the CRO or product backlog with an owner and a clear description of the step affected.
What is a good conversion rate for a funnel step?
There is no single good rate, because it depends on the product, the audience and the step. I benchmark each step against your own history and your best segments. A step that converts far below its neighbours, or a segment far below the average, is the signal worth acting on.
What do I need before funnel analysis can start?
Each step needs a tracked event with one definition across your tools, and enough volume to compare segments. If events are missing or inconsistent, tracking comes first, because a funnel built on broken data shows false leaks. I check the data against source records such as sign-ups or deposits.
